Like many bipolar people, I struggle with my weight. It wasn't bad when I was working and quite active. I also wasn't taking Seroquel. That has come on the market since I stopped regular work. The so called atypical antipsychotic drugs. I gained 14 pounds in the last 6 months. I am not sure whether it was due in part to Seroquel or in part to my lack of activity.
I joined Slimming World 7 weeks ago and I have lost 18.5 pounds. Seroquel doesn't have to mean that you balloon. The fun starts now I am below my weight of six months ago. I am getting far more active and I hope to lose a lot more weight. I have just stopped Lithium under the doctor's guidance and that might help me.
I will try to document my attempts to lose weight and get more active. Please join in here and contribute your experiences. Remember that if a medication makes you want to eat more, you have a choice. You are responsible for what you put in your stomach. If you put in more than you need, you will get fat. Simple as that. Metabolisms are not an excuse for pigging out. If I have to stick to my healthy eating plan, I'm sure you can too.

It has taken me 12 years to get my medications right. I think I've been on most every drug for bipolar. I now am on lithium, lamictal and seroquil. If I slide resume Pristiq which is the fastest acting antidepressant I've ever been on. I know seroquil contributed to my weight gain but I just absolutely can't sleep without it. My brain just wont shut down. I have managed to lose ten pounds but it has been a fight. But it's better to be a little overweight than manic or depressed.
